Alltel
Stadium
|
Situated on ten acres, adjacent to the St. Johns
River in the heart of downtown Jacksonville,
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is one of the
newest, state-of-the-art sports complexes in the
world. Formerly the Gator Bowl and ALLTEL
Stadium, Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is the
result of a $135 million renovation project,
making Jacksonville one of the top sports
locations in the country. |

In
1994, the new era for the stadium began with the
naming of an NFL franchise to the City of Jacksonville
and the start of a $135 million dollar renovation project.
Now the home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, Alltel
Stadium also continues to host the annual NCAA University
of Florida vs. University of Georgia, and Gator Bowl
football games. Functioning as the area's largest and
most completely equipped outdoor meeting venue, the
facility enables Jacksonville to compete for national
and regional gatherings of large groups. The recent
renovations have made possible the stadium's increased
ability to host a wide variety of events. Alltel Stadium's
function is that of a proven economic generator. When
filled to capacity in support of the Jaguars or for
some truly special event, it becomes one of the largest
communities in the First Coast.
The
stadium's highly visible status has attracted other
events including concert acts such as the Rolling
Stones, Billy Graham Crusade, Shania Twain, N'sync
and George Strait. U.S. Soccer, Promise Keepers and
monster truck shows have also been on Jacksonville
Municipal Stadium's itinerary in recent years,
generating a high status of public image for the
First Coast area.
Jacksonville Jaguars Preview
Though the 2006 season was disappointing for Jaguars
fans with a win record of 8-8, the 2007 season is
full of hope for Jacksonville. With arguably the
best cornerback in the NFL in Rashean Mathis, Reggie
Hayward, Donovin Darius and Mike Peterson all healed
up and draft picks Reggie Nelson, Mike Walker and
Brian Smith added to the roster the Jaguars are
ready to take the AFC by storm. The only thing they
need is a stadium full of screaming fans to cheer
them on and Coast to Coast has the tickets you want
to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Be there to see
the Jacksonville Jaguars live in 2007!
Some Jacksonville Jaguars history: Jacksonville
joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1995. During
the Jaguars' first year, the team fielded the AFC's
worst defense, losing nine games by more than 24
points. Offensively, however, they were successful.
Mark Brunell, who had previously played in only two
NFL games, posted the highest rating of any
expansion-team quarterback in league history. He
also led all NFL quarterbacks that year in rushing,
becoming the first AFC quarterback to run for more
than 400 yards in a season since Mike Pagel of the
Baltimore Colts (now Indianapolis Colts) in 1983.
Overall, Jacksonville's offensive performance
ranked third all-time among first-year franchises.
